3 Unbeaten Touch Teams at Outram
With only one game left in the Taieri Junior module touch competition, Outram School have 3 teams that are yet to lose a game! The yr 3/4 Blacks have had a great season winning every game and usually by a huge scores. The yr 5/6 Reds still remain unbeaten after 3 years of playing in the module. The closest a team has got to them was 11-5. The Blues also remain unbeaten after 3 years and are currently coming 2nd in the Taieri adult module which is a great achievement for a junior team. Well done to all players you are doing yourself and your school proud!

Elementary Touch Rules Course
Yesterday Grant Milne from Otago Touch came to school to run the elementary rules ref course for our top touch players. Mr Carroll, Marie W and Mrs McKenzie also attended to improve their knowledge of touch which was great to see! The course started with 50mins of open book testing on the rules of the game. The second half of the course was practical and involved participants learning to run good ref lines on the field and learn the signals refs use throughout a game. Well done to everyone who attended, the standard of touch will improve as players will have a better understanding of the rules!

Outram Touch-Blues
Outram Blue are still playing unbeaten touch with another win against St Marys, overpowering them in both attack and defence and winning 13-0. The Blues played amazing touch using two man quickies, DA(Dive Attack) and pushing St Marys to there limits by closing them down early and putting lots of pressure on them when they are on defence. The whole team played well, working together and talking to each other.
The Blues also have a night game, playing in the seniors adults grade. They came up against the Taieri College senior team 'Rush'. The 'Rush' team had the advantage being taller and some of them a lot faster. Sometimes it looked like the players learn't tap dancing by stepping and jumping away from us trying not to get touched. The Blues still didn't care about them being faster and taller and just played some good touch and eventually it came to a draw 9-9.

Outram Red vs. Elmgrove Black-Semi Final
The Reds had their semi final last night and it took awhile but once the Reds hit their straps, they held Elmgrove off convincingly, coming away with a win. Ella W had a great game, defending and shooting well, showing she was a force to be reckoned with on the court! The Reds had patches of panic with them giving away easy ball to the opposition which we don’t want to see next week in the finals. The Reds will need to be convincing from the word go and keep their composure to win this game and be the top team for years 5/6 mixed miniball. Go the Reds! Player of the Day this week: Nathan Coldwell for shooting well under pressure and showing what great defence skills he has. Score: 31/21to Outram Reds

Outram Red vs. East taieri Navy
Another convincing win for the Reds. They started off a bit shaky but once they settled into their rhythm, they were off! The Reds showed great displays of teamwork and supporting each other. Defence was another noticeable feature and is a stand out signature of this team. Player of the Day this week: Nicholas McA for consistently great play on attack and defence and Malachi B for driving the ball to the basket in a controlled manner, scoring a few baskets in the process and strong defence. Score: 33/11to Outram Reds

Outram Volleyball Teams Dominate

The highlight for the boys team was demolishing John McGlashan College 23-12. The highlight for the girls team was beating St Hildas College 18-4.

Outram Red vs. East Taieri Green
Wow – what a game! This was going to be a tough one right from the start given that East Taieri Green had beaten the Reds decisively the last time they met. However, the Reds never give up easily and so it proved with this game. The Reds led from the start and were totally committed to defence. This meant they kept East Taieri from scoring, rattling them in the process and allowing our players to shoot under less pressure. A very exciting game to watch and the Reds deservedly feel proud of their performance. Once again, a great team effort. Player of the Day this week: Mitchell R, who made his presence felt by brilliant attacking skills bringing the ball up court and 100% commitment to defence. Score: 14/12 to Outram Reds

Otago Regional Rippa Rugby Champs!!!
We went to Carisbrook excited and ready to play. We had qualified after winning the Taieri Schools tournament. We knew it would be hard but none of us knew just how hard it would turn out to be. There were teams from all around the Otago region! We easily got through the round robin series(3 games) that lead us to the semi finals. We won the semi final comfortably and qualified for the final against Millers Flat. This was a realy big game and we needed to win, the year 3 &4 team had already won their grand final against Clyde 7 to 9. In the end we beat Millers Flat 6 to 3. We are now Otago Regional Champions.

Impressive Round Robin Record!!-Yr 7/8 Basketball
Outram Red vs. Elmgrove Black-Basketball
The Reds came out determined and focused against a team they had previously lost to by one point. They quickly asserted their authority on this game, shooting well, defending brilliantly and keeping Elmgrove from scoring very few baskets by putting huge pressure on their shooters. Once again it was a pleasure to watch them play so well as a team and the Reds showed how classy they can be when they keep focussed. Player of the Day this week: Zara S, who calmly and collectively put up shot after shot but also defended with commitment. Score: 34/13 to Outram Reds

Outram Cheetahs v Silverstream-Netball
The Cheetah girls played another great game (finally after 5 weeks with no games), winning a with a well deserved 18-1. Player of the day was Nicole R. We also then went onto play our most talked about game of the season, against the Outram Eagles! Sadly they were too good for us, betting us 15-2. The girls tried really hard and had fun . Well done Cheetahs!

Outram Red vs. St Mary’s Blue
Another convincing win against a team the Reds had struggled to get the upper hand the last time they played together. This game the Reds all played as a team, coming away with an impressive score. It was a pleasure to watch as the Reds were focused, determined and showed they are a force to be reckoned with. Player of the Day this week: Ella W, who played with conviction and confidence the entire game. Score: 30/4 to Outram Reds

Netball
Outram Falcons v Fairfield 25 July
The Falcons had a well deserved win against Fairfield, winning 2-0. The Falcons managed to keep the ball in their half for 90% of the game which was a direct result of some great defence by Cheyenne F and Zoe F (who had to fill in for an absent player). After a very frustrating first half, and with some good supporting play by Lily J as WA, Jessica S managed to get in 2 great goals in the second half playing at GA.
Players of the Day were Jessica S and Lily J.
Well done Falcons.

Outram Red vs. Fairfield Red
A nice start to the term with the Reds pulling off a convincing win against Fairfield. The Reds played well as a team, supporting each other. They have implemented some new strategies which are paying off for them. Gritty, determined play would be a good description on how they played on Tuesday night. Keep up the intensity guys! Player of the Day this week: Sarah J who blocked beautifully for our shooters, defended really well and shot a few baskets of her own. Score: 47/6 to Outram Reds

Miniball-Reds
Outram Red vs. East Taieri Green
Another loss for our Reds(only the second ever!) this week but they came up against a very strong team who had a game plan and stuck to it. They effectively shut our guys out from shooting and marked our guys so tightly they struggled to get the ball down the court. Our guys need to work on getting out from behind their players and practice their shooting! However, there were some bright moments to this game as the Reds never gave up and played better and better as the match went on. It was a great game to watch! There were three Players of the Day this week and they were: Georgia B who showed a lot of grit and determination, never losing her head or concentration, Zara S was great on defence and rebounding and Nicolas McA showed what a great impact player he is. He shut down the Taieri Greens top player and was focused the entire game. Score: 23/12 to Taieri Green

Yr 7/8 Basketball vs Liberton School
On Monday Outram's yr 7/8 team came up against Liberton Christian School. They were a all boys team but we out played them easily. Outram spent most of the time in their half, the shooting wasn't to great at the start but we improved quickly. Ayden M and Aleisha A put up a lot of good shots. The final score was 48-3 to Outram.

Outram Falcons
The Outram Falcons had their first win of the season against SPC 7-0. The girls are starting to get the hang of the game and even managed to open up the court on a few occasions. Cheyenne F did some great defence work at WA, passing nicely to Jessica S and getting the ball back to the shooters where Lily J did very well with her shooting

Turf Hockey
This week saw the start of the second round and the team came up against Filadelfios Combined, whom they met 1st up. This was probably the best game of the season, with accurate passing and great support play. They came away with a 3-0 win with goals to Mitchell R(2) and Georgia B. Player of the day was Mitchell R for his consistant high standards and his awesome goal scoring.
Mosgiel Hockey was against Elmgrove and although the team played hard they couldn't get any goals through. They went down 0-2. Player of the day was Blake V for his strong defence and good positional play.
Also, a big thankyou to the McMillan family for the donation of the player of the day trophy.
June 19
The team went down 0-1 on a hard fought match against DNT combined. The passing was off tonight, and as a result they spent much of the game chasing the ball, but there was some amazing defence which keep the score to the single goal. The team had some opportunities and were unlucky not to convert them. Player of the day was Bailey M for his 110% effort and hard running at the many penalty corners.

Rugby 10's vs St Mary's
Outram played St Mary's today in the round robin match of the ORFU 10's competition. St Mary's have been the team to beat in the competition. From the first whistle Outram were more determined and constantly disrupted St Mary's ruck ball. Celine T scored a great try bumping off numerous would be tacklers and scoring under the posts. This set the tone of the match with Outram constructing some great tries moving the ball through the backline finding space. Outram went on to win the game 41-19. Players to impress were Celine T, Jordan B, Joseph M and Daniel G. Outram have now secured a grand final spot which is the 2nd year in a row that Outram have qualified for the grand final. Weather permitting the grand final will be played at Carisbrook.

Reds Miniball
Outram Red vs. Elmgrove Black
Not a pretty match for the Reds parents to watch this time round. The Reds came up against a well organised and determined team that stuck to their game plan. They shut out the Reds from shooting easily and had players marking ours the whole time. Unfortunately our guys couldn’t pull off the win, try as they might. Not a good game for the Reds this time but there were some great individual efforts, with Nicholas McA putting up the most reliable shots and Sarah J defending well. Player of the day went to Malachi B for playing with commitment and defending brilliantly with a huge bump on his forehead that was nearly blocking his vision! Score: 25/24 to Elmgrove Black

The team had a really good coaching session with Mark Smithells from Otago hockey so are looking forward to trying out their new skills this week.

Outram vs Pirates- Rippa Rugby
On the 9th of June after school, one student from each year group at Outram School was lucky enough to meet the All Blacks at the Edgar Centre to play a game of rippa for 14 minutes.
Each team had one All Black to help them and Ref. Outram School were lucky enough to be the only school there, as the rest were from rugby clubs i.e West Taieri Rugby Club. In our team there was, Max N, Celine T , Mitchell R, Samuel R, Charlie G, Tessa B, Hayden R and the AllBlack - John Afoa. When we met him we were gobsmacked at how big he was. As we were talking to him , the horn blew and it was time for the game. Our opposition was the Pirates Rugby Club, and there AllBlack was Brendon Lenard. In the first 5 minutes we were down by 2 tries, but 2 minutes later the Juniors were fired up, sprinting through the oppositions defence. John Afoa was pretty awesome as he let us away with a few knock on's , but apart from that we were doing fine. Into the second half, the Pirates threw us around a bit scoring a few tries, but yet again our Juniors powered through giving us a great chance of winning. The horn blew for the last time and that was the game, we ended up winning 9-7. We all got John Afoa's signature and also Joe Rockococos. It was an exhilarating game to watch and to play and we ended up winning which we were all proud of.

Outram Red vs. St Mary’s Blue
If ever there was a game that should have been on video, this was it. The best game to watch – so exciting, nail bitingly close with the win only certain in the last quarter! The Reds well and truly came up against their toughest opponents ever. Not only was this team tall and solid but they could play miniball. Each quarter was a draw and it was through excellent teamwork, keeping a cool head to keep in control plus sheer fitness that they pulled away so solidly at the end. Talk about proud! The whole team piled on the pressure and Nicholas McA made some amazing intercepts that set up the final quarter but Player of the day went to Mitchell R for attacking and passing well, great defence and keeping calm under pressure. Score: 25/17 to Outram. YeeHA!

Yr 7/8 Basketball vs Macandrew
The yr 7/8 basketball team came up against Macandrew, a pretty tough team. Outram started of a bit messy missing lots of shots but soon began to get away on the other team. Macandrew had some strong dribblers but Outrams defence was tough. Max N did some good blocking, making it easier for for everyone to do lay up's. Celine T got lots of shots. Outram came out on top winning 46-18. Player of the day was Joseph M for great defence.

Outram Red vs. Silverstream
A slightly tougher team this week but the Reds stamped their authority right from the start. The Reds displayed good teamwork this week with some great passing into the space. They all drove consistently to the basket and it paid with the many baskets scored. Playing as a team will always be the Reds best asset along with their drive and commitment on court. Player of the day went to Georgia B for calm, steady play, good defence and reliable shooting. Score: 44/7 to Outram.

Outram School Hockey-Week 2
Turf
There was an improved performance from the turf team this week although they still went down 0-6 to a skilled Straith Taieri team in cold conditions. This has been a steep learning curve for these players, competing against teams with more experienced players. But the team work is starting to come and with more work on the positions we should start to see better things. Everyone has been making a huge effort, and the player of the day was Sam, who volunteered to put on the goalie gear, and did an awesome job for his first game there. A big thank you to all the parents and supporters who braved the conditions to cheer on the team.

The Saturday morning team was unlucky to go down to Elmgrove 0-1 in what was a very even battle. We came close a number of times but their defence held on well. Everyone worked hard and the player of the day was Tyler M for his big effort and great support play throughout the game.

77-2 Outram Win!!!
The year 7/8 Outram Blues Basketball team came up against Fairfield at the Edgar Centre. Some players were away because of injuries but that didn't stop Outram from having a great win. Every one played well, Christie W did lots of lay ups, Max N got lots of intercepts and Belinda S got some good rebounds. Overall Outram Blues dominated the game scoring every minute and came out on top 77-2.

Yr 7/8 Basketball Season Begins!
Wow! What a game. On Monday at 5:45 Outram Yr 7/8 played Portobello for our first game of the season. It was a awesome game but we all think we need a bit of shooting practice! We were ALL sweating hard by half time but came out with a pretty good score at full time 30-21 to US!! I think Max N was player of the day because he carried the ball up the court lots and did loads of defending and had some good shots.

Outram School Hockey-Week 1
It was a torrid introduction to turf hockey for the team going down by 7 goals to a determined Kavanagh Combined team.
It was the first game ever for at least 3 players and the first time with eleven players on a full sized field for the others. Everyone played hard and by the end of the match we had settled and started to work together.
Player of the day was Shelby B for her huge effort and great positional play.
Saturday morning hockey started with a first up 4-0 win against Silverstream. Goals to Wade V (2) and Scott M (2). There were also a number of players having their 1st game and they worked well in the team. Player of the day was Samantha C for her high workrate.

Manapouri Rugby League Champs for 2009!
On Friday the grand final of the house rugby league competition was held in perfect conditions at Outram School. Manapouri played Wakatipu in the final. After a quick couple of tries from the Wakatipu team, Manapouri looked out of the game. The second half belonged to Manapouri though with David D having an outstanding game scoring the winning try in overtime to win the game for Manapouri 27-22. Overall the game was played to a high standard and both teams made good use of their juniors.

Golf at Outram School
Last Tuesday we had golf expert Melanie Harper come to school and take a golf session for our Yr 7/8 class. The session involved driving the ball and chipping for accuracy. Students who showed potential will be selected to have a specialised session with Melanie at the Belleknowles golf course in Dunedin.

Outram School Touch by Cam M
Outram blues
The Blues were fired up coming into their exhibition game against Fairfield A. As they had been off touch for at least six weeks and were hungry to get back into it. Outram had a slightly different team this year but that didn't stop them from playing a good flowing game easily beating Fairfield 15-1! Sending a warning to the rest of the teams. Hopefully a sign of another unbeaten season this year again!
Outram Silver and Blacks
Both teams were starting out at playing touch this year but they had already shown a lot of skills in practice for teams that have not played touch ever. Both teams played good games winning their games by good margins. Standouts from Outram teams on the day were Logan G and Sam R who showed good speed. Hopefully these guys get to play each other in the final!

Great Start to Touch Season for Outram School
Yesterday was the start of the 2009 Taieri Junior module Touch season. Outram School has 6 teams entered in the competition. Of the 6 teams playing yeaterday only one team had a loss. The Blues, Reds, Silvers and Blacks all had good wins while the Maroons had a draw with Fairfield School. This was a great result for Outram School considering that it was the first ever Touch game for most of the Outram School players!
