Rugby 10's vs St Mary's

Outram played St Mary's today in the round robin match of the ORFU 10's competition. St Mary's have been the team to beat in the competition. From the first whistle Outram were more determined and constantly disrupted St Mary's ruck ball. Celine T scored a great try bumping off numerous would be tacklers and scoring under the posts. This set the tone of the match with Outram constructing some great tries moving the ball through the backline finding space. Outram went on to win the game 41-19. Players to impress were Celine T, Jordan B, Joseph M and Daniel G. Outram have now secured a grand final spot which is the 2nd year in a row that Outram have qualified for the grand final. Weather permitting the grand final will be played at Carisbrook.

Outram vs Pirates- Rippa Rugby

On the 9th of June after school, one student from each year group at Outram School was lucky enough to meet the All Blacks at the Edgar Centre to play a game of rippa for 14 minutes.
Each team had one All Black to help them and Ref. Outram School were lucky enough to be the only school there, as the rest were from rugby clubs i.e West Taieri Rugby Club. In our team there was, Max N, Celine T , Mitchell R, Samuel R, Charlie G, Tessa B, Hayden R and the AllBlack - John Afoa. When we met him we were gobsmacked at how big he was. As we were talking to him , the horn blew and it was time for the game. Our opposition was the Pirates Rugby Club, and there AllBlack was Brendon Lenard. In the first 5 minutes we were down by 2 tries, but 2 minutes later the Juniors were fired up, sprinting through the oppositions defence. John Afoa was pretty awesome as he let us away with a few knock on's , but apart from that we were doing fine. Into the second half, the Pirates threw us around a bit scoring a few tries, but yet again our Juniors powered through giving us a great chance of winning. The horn blew for the last time and that was the game, we ended up winning 9-7. We all got John Afoa's signature and also Joe Rockococos. It was an exhilarating game to watch and to play and we ended up winning which we were all proud of.

Rugby 10's

The Outram 10's team played Arthur Street School yesterday at Robin Hood park. The team played extremely well with forwards and backs linking together to score some great team tries. Jordan B was a tireless worker for the forwards always taking the ball forward and Cam M gave the backs direction and found some gaps around the ruck. The halftime score was 37-0 to Outram. We gave Arthur Street Josh A and Aaron H but they didn't stop the tries coming and the final score was 87-0 to Outram. Next week we are playing our rivals St Mary's at Outram School at 1:45pm. West Taieri Under 8's

Lexy’s last game of rugby

On Saturday 10th May, West Taieri U8’s went to Brighton for our first game of tackle rugby. It was awesome. It was also Lexy S’ last game as she is off to play Netball. The coach said “come on lets get on the field and start the game!” So off we went onto the field. West Taieri was starting first with the ball. The coach blew his whistle and we were off. We were on fire smashing through people trying to get tries. Our first try was scored by Logan T from Middlemarch. We were trying to hang on but they were so good and they got a try. Suddenly like we weren’t expecting it the whistle blew for half time. “Back to the field” called the coach. Brighton started with the ball first. Off they went blasting past us then a big guy banged Harry down and scored a try OUCH! Then there was a big ruck. Benjamin saw the ball poking out and he pulled it out and scored a try. Logan G scored another try but it wasn’t enough and the end score was Brighton 4 tries, West Taieri 3 tries. Benjamin was player of the day and Harry tackler of the day. Lexy gave each of us a bag of lollies at the end. We will miss her.

West Taieri Rugby Report

U7 Maroons vs U7 Dunedin Sharks
The team travelled to The Oval last Saturday to play their final game of the season. Despite West Taieri's best efforts, Dunedin proved to be too good and eventually won 11-7. However, West Taieri certainly displayed much better sportsmanship throughout the game for which I'm very proud of the team. Player of the Day went to James L.

West Taieri v Eastern Under 9's

The boys capped off a brilliant season with a big 70-0 win at home in perfect conditions. The tries were shared amongst the forwards and backs and all the players were rewarded for a fine game. They can all be proud of their efforts throughout the season and finished with 10 wins, 3 loses and a draw, scoring 765 points and conceding just 135. At the prize giving that followed Jordan B was awarded Player of the Year. Russell B and Sammy B were presented with Most Improved Player awards.

Final Score West Taieri 7 Southern 11.

U7 Maroons vs Kaikorai White
West Taieri squared off against Kaikorai at Outram last Saturday. With the recent weather the lower field was wet and muddy underfoot, not that any of the players minded. Both teams played well in a closely contested game. West Taieri were down 3-5 at half-time, but fought back strongly in the second half with the game finishing in a 7-all draw. Player of the Day went to Connor M for some strong running and for trying to keep up with his team mates.

Under 9’s vs Taieri 80 to 15 win
High scorching game with strong running and good tackling. Starting to show structure in their game. Player of the day was Jacob B

West Taieri Under 10s
The boys played Southern and won by 80 – 25 in a well executed display of open running rugby. David D was named player of the day with same strong running on the wing scoring 2 tries. Other try scores to numerous to name. Fair play would have to go to Ayden M and Sam Y in playing for the opposition for the last 10 minutes with good team spirit.

U7 West Taieri blue vs Taieri black
The boys got off to a slow start letting in a couple of tries, then they found their feet and played well. On attack there was some good runs with some resulting in tries. Defensively in the second half saw some excellent rips. Try scorers were Trey R & Matthew M. Player of the day was Matthew M. Final score Taieri 11 West Taieri 7

U7 Maroon vs Pirates Villians
The U7 Maroon's came up against a very good Pirates side last Saturday at the Oval. It was the best opposition they had faced in the last few weeks and while West Taieri competed well and were level-pegging at half-time, Pirates pulled away in the second half eventually winning 7-3. The West Taieri side displayed good sportsmanship at all times and Player of the Day went to Benjamin A for a great all-round game.

West Taieri v Dunedin Under 9's

The boys went down 35-15 to a more determined Dunedin side at home. At 15 all at half time the game looked like it could have gone either way but too many turnovers and their normally very good defence let them down. Nicholas M earned the Player of the Day for his strong running and line breaks and James H was awarded Tackler of the Day.

West Taieri Under 10s v Taieri Blue

A well deserved, hard fought tussle between two evenly matched teams. Some aggressive running and hard tackling resulted in a much improved team effort. Player of the day was Ben S, awarded 1 try other try scorers were Same Y 2, David D 2, Cameron M 1, Oliver S 1, Ryan A1, Ayden M 1. Final Score 45 West Taieri ,25 Taieri
