Outram Champions of the Taieri!!

On Monday 15th Dec the Grand Finals for the Taieri Junior Touch module were held. Outram School had the Reds in the yr 5/6 final and the Blues in the yr 7/8 final. The Reds were up against Elmgrove Warriors a team who like Outram Red has gone through the season without a loss. Outram controlled the game from the first whistle and scored early through Mitchell R. Another two tries before halftime gave Outram a 5-2 lead at halftime. The second half of the game was dominated by Outram again with some great 'quickie' plays baffling the Elmgrove defence and leading to more tries for Outram. The final score was 8-3 to Outram. Player of the match was Wilson M with great drives from set play and scoops.

The second final of the day was the yr 7/8 match between Outram Blue and St Mary's. The Outram Blue team have gone through two module seasons without recording a loss! The team have been training hard for this final and all the hard work paid off with an amazing win 15-1. All the team contributed to the fantastic performance with Emily B being awarded player of the match for her great work on the wing. The team scored from set and broken play and totally dominated the St Mary's team from the start of the game. This was a great result for the team and a great send off for the yr 8 students.

Outram Blue vs Green Island- Touch

We started the game a little slow but we eventually got our patterns going and soon got some points on the board . Hayley M had an awesome game on the wing so did Cameron M. Isaac T played well in the middle with some great scoops. The final score was 14 - 3. This was an improvement on the previous winning score against Green Island of 12-3.

Impressive Start to Season for Outram Touch Teams

The Taieri Junior Module Touch started yesterday and the Outram School teams showed they are going to be a dominant force in the module! The Reds started with a 30-0 win over Green Island. This is an amazing score considering the game only goes for 30 mins! The Whites and Maroons had close games both losing by 3 tries. The Blues played Green Island and won the game 12-3. This is a great start for the teams considering they have had only 2 weeks of training prior to the competition starting. Games are always on Mondays from 4-5pm at Peter Johnstone Park in Mosgiel.

Reds Remain Unbeaten!!

Outram Red vs. Elmgrove
We have won the year 4/5 grade! This team has such depth and talent. All these guys play their heart out each game with consistent defence and strong attacking skills. They totally deserve to be the outright winners of their section. After leading 22/0 in the first two quarters against Elmgrove, we mixed up both teams for the final two to finish the season on a fun game. Our guys found it surprisingly tough playing against some of their fellow members! Player of the day went to the whole team for being simply brilliant during the miniball season. Score: 22/0 to Outram.

Outram Reds Still Undefeated!!

Outram Red vs. St Mary’s
This was the toughest game the Reds have played this season. St Mary’s managed to keep our guys out of the shooting keyhole and they struggled to shoot as a result. However, once again, the Reds kept their heads and wore St Mary’s resolve down and finally began getting baskets in. Our defence was awesome and there was some great supportive play with inspired passing. Player of the day went to Bradley H for great passing, solid defence and consistent supportive play. Score: 14/4 to Outram.

Outram Red Miniball-Remain Undefeated!!

Outram Red vs. Silverstream
An easier game for the Reds this week though they still had to work hard to get in their baskets. They demonstrated good team work, supporting each other and passing the ball when necessary. Everyone always works hard on defence and attack. Our guys are hungry for the ball and it shows! Player of the day went to Malachi B for his excellent work rate and Eli N for accurate shooting. Both worked hard on defence and attack as well as supporting their fellow team mates. Well done guys! Score: 26/0 to Outram.

Hawks Finish With a Perfect Season!!

What a fantastic ending to a totally awesome season for the Hawks. They won their final game against Fairfield Light Green 18-3.

Player of the day was Amber C.

This team has come together so well, winning all of their games this season.

The shooting skills of Zoe F were just awesome and this week Nicole R showed us some pretty cool shooting skills too. Well done girls.

The rest of the team showed their developing skills in defense, managing to get some really good intercepts.

Rachel B played a fantastic game at WA, showing a lot of skill in both attack and defense as she raced around the court.

The Outram Hawks are definitely a team to watch out for next season.

Well done girls for a truely awesome Netball season.

Outram Red vs East Taieri 1

Once again, a game that tested our players, as East Taieri came out very determined and fought hard to keep the Reds from scoring. The Reds settled into their game after the first quarter and started scoring more baskets. Mitchell R did an amazing last minute shot for basket just before the bell went in the third quarter. Awesome! This Outram Red team are very tough and determined as they rarely let other teams score against them. Player of the day went to Georgia B for always being reliable and strong in shooting and defence. She showed wonderful support to her fellow players throughout the whole game and kept a cool head against a tough team. Score: 20/4 to Outram.

Outram Hawks Netball

The Hawks had another fantastic win this weekend against Elm Grove Fantails, winning 20 -2.

Playing for the first time on a beautiful clear morning, it was great to see the girls perform without freezing fingers and being soaking wet.

Nakesha was gaining lots of confidence as GA, managing to put in 3 great goals and Zoe F had another stunning game at GS, putting up the remaining 17 goals. Well done girls for such fantastic shooting.

Again Rachel and Courtney impressed with their super efforts all over the court, Courtney as WD and Rachel WA. Both girls showed heaps of determination to make sure the ball didn't get into the Fantails shooting area too often.

Player of the day went to Grace Mc from Middlemarch. She played a half game at centre with Nicole and both girls played a super game. Grace M also took over in the second half from Amber C who had to go off ill. Grace Mc played a super half at GD - having to defend a very tall Fantail . Well done Grace Mc for trying so hard throughout the whole game.

Another fantastic win to our Hawks. Well done girls you are super.

The last game for the Future Ferns level is to be played this Saturday with a prize giving following the 1040 game. This will be held in the hall immediately after the Hawks game. If games are cancelled this weekend due to rain, the last week will be the following weekend.

Outram Yr 7/8 Make Otago Basketball Grand Final

Once again the Outram School Yr 7/8 basketball team has made the Otago Basketball Mixed section Grand Final. The team will be playing against Kaikorai Valley College in the final. The team has remained unbeaten throughout the season. The team won the Yr 7/8 mixed section last year so the pressure is on to win the title again and be crowned the best mixed basketball team in Otago.

Outram Red vs. East Taieri 2

Phew! East Taieri came out firing with all guns blazing in the first quarter, and it took until the third quarter for the Reds to convincingly take the lead! Our shooting wasn’t a highlight, mostly as East Taieri was so tight on defence, effectively shutting our players out from putting up baskets. However, the Reds illustrated what calm heads can achieve – especially coupled with gritty determination not to lose! Once again, a great team effort. Player of the day went to Jacob B-H for hunting down ball after ball, creating turnovers for the Reds to score baskets with. Score: 12/8 to Outram.

Outram Hawks Netball

The whole team showed true Outram School values - displaying perserverance and dedication - when they played a fantastic game against Elm Grove Red Rebels in the pouring rain.

The Hawks won 7-0.

Great shooting by both Nicole R and Rachel B. The whole team have all improved so much. Amber C filled in for the Elm Grove team who were short a player and played her best game for the season. Well done Amber C and thanks for being such a great sportswoman.

Our Player of the Day went to Holly C. Holly C struggled with the cold and the rain and despite a few trips and bumps, choose to continue playing after half time so as not to let her team down. Well done Holly C for displaying such super spirit.

The Hawks have continued their fantastic winning run. Despite rain canceling the majority of games this season, the games we have managed to play have all been in favour of the Hawks. The Hawks have only given away 1 goal to the opposition and scored 66 goals over the whole season.

YAY THE HAWKS!!!!!!!

Outram Whites vs Fairfield- Commentary by Liam J

Boomp3.com

Outram Red Miniball-Remain Undefeated!!

Outram Red vs. Fairfield
A tougher game defensively for our Reds this week, though they still managed to post a high score. They will need to work on their shooting at their next practice as there were a lot of attempts at the basket that just wouldn’t go in. Excellent all round defence for this team, however, as they play with such conviction and commitment! Fairfield didn’t even get a chance to shoot. Player of the day went to Zara S for being hungry for intercepts, delivering on attack, supporting her fellow players and being the top scorer with 7 baskets. Score: 38/0 to Outram.

Outram School Wrestling

Yesterday American Freestyle Wrestler Scott Hewitt came to Outram School to work with the Sports Academy. Scott has won various titles in the All American league and has now moved to New Zealand working as a Wrestling coach at the Todd Fighting Academy. The students really enjoyed learning some grappling techniques and how to shoot on opponents to take them down. Scott was really impressed with the students ability to pick up the techniques quickly and their overall strength.

Basketball Week 2, Term 3

Outram Red vs. Elmgrove
The Reds played against a very unexperienced team that offered little resistance to the Reds usual onslaught - determined, committed play that they deliver each and every week. Player of the day went to Mitchell R for excellent shooting, brilliant defence, great vision and supporting his fellow players. Well done Mitchell! Score: 80/0 to Outram.

Outram Yr 7/8 vs Taieri Blue
The Yr 7/8 were facing a strong Taieri team who is running in second place behind our Outram team. The game started off at a furious pace with goals being scored by both teams, refs were blowing whistles everywhere for fouls against Taieri. Unfortunately they weren't giving us points for them! At half time we were only in the lead by 2 points(one goal). We were all pretty nervous and were madly wanting to win but we had to get in a lot more goals and work a lot harder on our defence. In the second half we kicked up and were starting to slowly gain a strong lead but they were still coming back with goals and strong defence but in the end we won 38-20.

Outram Hawks Netball

On Saturday in the pouring rain the Hawks played another super game winning 16-0 against the Silverstream Sting. Despite slippery balls and freezing finger, all the girls played really well, with some real improvements being shown by all.

We had 2 players of the day:

Nicole R for showing fantastic sportsmanship when she willingly played for the other team as they were short of players and played an outstanding WD game for them.

Zoe F for outstanding shooting. Zoe F put up all the goals for the Hawks this week, missing only about 4 for the whole game.

Well done the HAWKS.

Basketball Week 1, Term 3

Outram Yr 7/8
Great game team. Stealing the ball and and taking most of the rebounds on defence while moving the ball up the court quickly on attack was done well by the whole team. Some great intercepts were taken by Emily B and Sam Y and great dribbling by Isaac T and David D. With a winning score of 36 - 12 the team played well for the first game of the term.
Outram Red vs. St Mary’s
The Reds had a tough game to start this season but ended up with a very good win. The score didn’t reflect St Mary’s efforts as they couldn’t sink their baskets. The Reds need to focus on calm, controlled play to ensure they maximise their efforts by accurate shooting. Our guys are super keen! Player of the day went to Eli N for good support of his fellow players, good vision of the court, showing skills in defending and attacking and calm, controlled play. Score: 20/2 to Outram.

Sports Round Up- Term 2

Well its been another fantastic term of sport for Outram School. Some major achievements have been-

For the first time ever Outram School held a school cross country event with the entire school participating

The netball club has the highest amount of students playing netball ever for our school!
I would like to thank all the parents that have supported and helped our students participate and succeed in the school sports. Without parent support we wouldn't be involved in many of the sports that we now offer at Outram School. Have a good break and come back refreshed for term 3!!

Outram School Rugby 10's Team

Miniball

Outram Red vs. Silverstream
This team is sizzling! Unbeaten this term and looking hot for next term’s round of games. Once again, the Reds displayed grit and determination when Silverstream upped their defence and came at Outram Reds with all they got in the last two quarters - with the cost of Silverstream not being able to score against our guys. Sizzler of the match was Eli N who read the game well, intercepting, defending and attacking well, posting the highest basket score of 9 points. Player of the day went to Sarah J and to Bradley H for lifting their game by displaying consistent, committed defence and strong attacking skills. AWESOME! Score: 22/0 to Outram.

Outram Yr7/8
The team had a very tough game this week against a strong KVC team. Outram was down at halftime by 8 points but battled back in the second half to get within 4 points at the end of the game. Outram thought they had there first loss of the season but when fouls were added to the scores we came out 31-30 winners. This was a big scare for the team with 3 key players missing the rest of the team had to step up. Outstanding play by Isaac T and Hayley M helped the team come through with the win. The team is unbeaten for the season and its over a year since this team has had a loss!!

Miniball

Outram Red vs. East Taieri 1
A fast paced game, with a flurry of baskets shot in the first 2 quarters. East Taieri put on stronger defence in the last two quarters, slowing down the scoring frenzy. Outram showed determination and perseverance in getting baskets in the last quarter – no mean feat! Defence, again, was awesome. They supported each other well and passed the ball around to fend off East Taieri. Well done guys! Player of the day went to Zara S for scoring the most baskets with 9, controlled play and for being committed on defence. Score: 34/6 to Outram.
Outram Yr 7/8 vs Taieri Blue
What a game! The Blues worked together as a team while putting up lots of baskets and defending their rebounds. With a score of 33-13 at half time the team kept up the hard work. Aaron H had a fantastic game on attack and on defence while Bayley G dribbled down the court and put up a lay-up at the other end. Cam M weaved in and out of the the players with excellent dribbling and the whole team played a great game winning 47-28. The team is still undefeated and players from this team least year have now not lost a game for a year!

Outram Whites vs Fairfield

The game was interesting to watch and to play in. The first 2 quarters we were losing by about ten points. The opposition's
number 12 was doing most of the work! In the third quarter No12 was not in play so we had our chance and took it!
Player of the day is awarded to Celine T for scoring 14 points. The final score was 22/18 to Outram. Another great game
team.

Outram School Netball

Outram Hawks had a fantastic win against East Taieri, 4-0.

Player of the Day was Rachel B from Lee-Stream School. However all players deserve credit for a game well played.

East Taieri had been picked as possibly the strongest opposition but the girls went in and gave it their all. Centre (Zoe F) played an all round super game. She was brilliant at both attack and defence and was a key player in stopping the ball from getting to the East Taieri shooters. Our shooters (Holly and Courtney) managed to retain a lot of possession with some really good rebounds by GA and GS.

GK and WD (Nicole and Nakesha) had good defensive support, making sure the ET shooters didn't get their hands on the ball too often.
Well done the HAWKS!

Lexy S and Zara S got player of the day on Saturday for their netball teams and both were playing at Goal Keeper!
Lexy for the Outram Steel - who lost to Abbotsford 5-1 in a very close game.
Zara S for Outram Cheetahs - Another resounding win for this team who are playing above their age group in the graded section, with great goal shooting from Rebecca S and Kate B. Brooke M also had a fantastic game at WA.

Rugby 10's

The Outram 10's team played Arthur Street School yesterday at Robin Hood park. The team played extremely well with forwards and backs linking together to score some great team tries. Jordan B was a tireless worker for the forwards always taking the ball forward and Cam M gave the backs direction and found some gaps around the ruck. The halftime score was 37-0 to Outram. We gave Arthur Street Josh A and Aaron H but they didn't stop the tries coming and the final score was 87-0 to Outram. Next week we are playing our rivals St Mary's at Outram School at 1:45pm. Miniball Week 3

Outram Red vs. Elmgrove
A high scoring game from the Reds this week against a younger, inexperienced team who didn’t even get a chance to shoot. Everyone bar one in the Reds scored baskets, and while not great for Elmgrove, was good for our team to get a taste of scoring baskets. Top scorer this week was Sarah J with 7 baskets. Player of the day went to Nathan C for illustrating what good teamwork is all about - defence, attack, passing to your fellow team mates and calm, controlled play. Score: 56/0 to Outram.

Outram White vs St Mary's
The game was fantastic, Outram won 18/12. Both sides showed maximum participation
levels. Player of the day was awarded to Luke K for many shots in from the three point line, its a shame in mini ball
they don't count three pointers! Well done to all other players.
Liam J [Team captain]

Outram Yr 7/8 vs Taieri College
Another successful week of miniball for the Outram Blues. With a score of 24-12 the team played great and created a couple of good blocks so the lay-ups went in the hoop. Emily B retreived or tipped some great rebounds while at the other end of the court the shots went up and in by Cam M and Isaac T. Defence was tight and Sam Y stole the ball from the opposition and had the defence under control.
Well Done.

Week 2 Miniball

Outram Yr 7/8 vs Fairfield
30-4. What a great score again this week for the Outram Blues. They worked well on defence and recovered the rebounds. Cam M ran the full court well and as a team we marked players on defence. The shooting was timed and the team spaced out well. The team supported each other and shared the ball round. Well Done

Outram Red vs. St Mary’s
Another great game to watch from our Outram Red team this week! Zara S had a blistering game, showing great timing in defence. The whole team worked well supporting each other, were committed in defence and read the game well. Player of the day was Taine R who illustrated good teamwork – passing to fellow team mates, good defence and attacking skills. Baskets scored: Zara S 4, Taine R, 2, Bradley H 1. West Taieri Under 8's

Lexy’s last game of rugby

On Saturday 10th May, West Taieri U8’s went to Brighton for our first game of tackle rugby. It was awesome. It was also Lexy S’ last game as she is off to play Netball. The coach said “come on lets get on the field and start the game!” So off we went onto the field. West Taieri was starting first with the ball. The coach blew his whistle and we were off. We were on fire smashing through people trying to get tries. Our first try was scored by Logan T from Middlemarch. We were trying to hang on but they were so good and they got a try. Suddenly like we weren’t expecting it the whistle blew for half time. “Back to the field” called the coach. Brighton started with the ball first. Off they went blasting past us then a big guy banged Harry down and scored a try OUCH! Then there was a big ruck. Benjamin saw the ball poking out and he pulled it out and scored a try. Logan G scored another try but it wasn’t enough and the end score was Brighton 4 tries, West Taieri 3 tries. Benjamin was player of the day and Harry tackler of the day. Lexy gave each of us a bag of lollies at the end. We will miss her.

Activ8 Schools Challenge-Bronze Medal Winners

On Tuesday 13th of May eight Yr 6 Outram students went to a Dunedin Schools team challenge called Activ8. We had lots of fun doing different challenges and working together as a team. We came first in the team adventure challenge, where we had to do different activities working as a team. For each activity we did a P.M.I chart for what we thought of that activity. The challenges were hard but we completed most of them without to much trouble. After doing the team adventure challenge we had a little break then we went on to a physical challenge. We had to go on n confidence course running around the field. We also had to do some throwing into a bucket what ever score we got (123) got taken off the time of the confidence course. The last round for the day was a food and nutrition competition. We had to make a silly salad and build a food pyramid. At the end of the day we had a quiz we got most of the answers right. Overall we came 3rd out of 31 schools which is a fantastic achievement considering the size of our school. Members of the team were- Alesiha A, Nicola L, Shelby B, Celine T, Wilson M, Joseph M, James M and Dougal B.

Yesterday the Outram year 7/8 miniball team played Port Chalmers. The score at half time was 4-16 to us and the final score was 38-12 to us. Cameron M had a fantastic game controlling the tempo and bringing the ball up the court. Hayley M played very well for her first time and Bayley G played well shooting most of our goals. We played really well and worked well as a team. This was a great way to start the season considering we are defending champions and are going to play teams which are going to be physically a lot bigger.

House League Grand Final

The Rugby League grand final was played on Monday 5th May. The final was played between Wakatipu and Mahinerangi. Both teams were cheered on by the entire school who came out to watch the final. It was a very tough battle with only a try seperating the teams at halftime. Wakatipu scored early in the second half and held on to their lead to win the game 24-20. Players to stand out were Isaac T, Sam Y and Charlie G all from Wakatipu. Cam M and Tessa B played really well for Mahinerangi. Well done to both teams for great sportsmanship throughout the tournament. We will be holding a 7 a side Soccer tournament later in the term.

House League Finals

The semi finalists for the league champs were played yesterday with Manapouri taking on Mahinerangi and Wakatipu playing Wanaka. Wakatipu beat Wanaka in a close game with the lead changing throughout the game. Isaac T scored a great try off a bomb that hit the post which sealed the game for Wakatipu. In the second semi Mahinerangi were to strong for Manapouri scoring in the last minute to win the game. Jessica M had a great game for Manapouri especially on defence. The grand final will be contested between Wakatipu and Mahinerangi, if the weather is bad the game will be postponed until Monday next term.

House Rugby League Champs

This week Outram's school houses have been battling it out on the rugby field in a 7 a side rugby league competition. Houses play 3 round robin games with the top four teams progressing through to the semis to be played on Thursday followed by the grand final to be played on Friday. Teams had to have at least 2 junior students and 2 female players on the field at all times. At the moment Manapouri and Wanaka look like the teams to beat. It is also great to see teachers playing for their house with Miss Gilbert turning out for Hawea yesterday in her first ever game of league!! Results will be posted here on the blog.

Full Primary Touch Tournament

On Thursday the 10th of April the top touch players of Outram(Blues/Whites) went in to Mosgiel to play in the Full Primary Schools Touch Tournament. Each team had 3 round robin games, with the winner of each pool qualifying for the semi finals. The first game the Blues played was against St Mary's 2, the score was 6-4 to us. Because of the draw we had to play our second game against Fairfield straight after our first game. We ended up drawing with Fairfield 2 all. This meant we has to beat Green Island by more than 2 points to qualify for the semis. Mr Martin gave us a good talking to and we beat Green Island 23-1. We drew Brighton in the semis. We played well and beat them 6-0. The final was against St Mary's 1, who we had beaten previously in the Taieri Module finals a month earlier. It was a very close game we were leading 3-2 at halftime. St Mary's scored twice just before fulltime to beat us 4-3. The team was very gutted as it was our first loss ever as a team. We are proud of our achievements and now are hungry to win the trophy back next year!!!!
